An Unexpected, Special Gift
Last week, I received a most unexpected gift. “Just because…” the enclosed, handwritten note said.

The Waterman Nº5 in black celluloid is elegant and understated. Its only ornamentation – other than the minimalistic clip and Art Deco styled band – is the pink disc, at the bottom of the barrel, where the number 5 is inscribed.

The Pink nib glides smoothly and gracefully; it moves to the rhythm of my hand, without will. It writes precise hairlines, then shifts, imperceptibly, to moderately wet, fine-to-medium, lines.

Line variation produced by the nib is discernible, and shading is reminiscent of the way fog gives way to mist over Georges Bank, in the break of day.
The pen is incredibly special. Not only is it nib nirvana, but it is also a reminder of a friend’s kindness, love, and generosity.
